It's cut back time before the BIG DAY! I'm posting this now, so you can plan ahead for this Saturday. This is a flat route that we need, as we wind down the miles. SummerWits is also winding down organized mid-run Wednesdays, so please get the mileage in on your own. Luckily, there are directions already included by the previous author, if you need them. Bill Stokes here.&amp;nbsp; Since Linda's post with the link to the route is broken and I know she is asleep already I'm posting a new link.&amp;nbsp; Here it is: &lt;a href="http://www.usatf.org/routes/view.asp?rID=395361"&gt;http://www.usatf.org/routes/view.asp?rID=395361&lt;/a&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;You might notice that I have you running up 6th street from Capitol to Lincoln Park.&amp;nbsp; I won't change the map but Linda is planing to change the written directions to have you run up 5th instead.&amp;nbsp; It will be safer to run against the traffic. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;As Linda indicated in her post the route has lots of possible restroom stops.&amp;nbsp; We also are going to make sure there is plenty of water and Gatorade about every 3 miles.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;b&gt;NOTE for those not trying to qualify for Boston:&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Remember to keep your target pace between water stops but take a minute or two to hydrate every three miles.&amp;nbsp; If you stop for 1 minute every stop you will only add 7 minutes to your time for the day.&amp;nbsp; If you stop for 2 minutes every water stop you only add 14 minutes to your time.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;If you average 10 minute miles on this 23 mile route your time with 1 minute stops will be about 4 hours total. I just caught yet another summer cold, so I will be sporadic in my workouts during the week. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;We are excited about our 20-23 miler this weekend.  Kimee and Bill have offered to do the water stops to give Doug a break, and we will most likely start from Panera West to Wabash trail, to Chatham and back. Great company, great fun!  We missed seeing everyone else.  I wanted to thank Doug again for his tireless efforts in getting the water stop out to us.  It was much appreciated!!!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I will post the long run next week. We are tapering back to 10-12 miles, so I chose the Panther Creek circuit again, which was major FUN last time! We will meet @ Panera West and start @ 5:30 AM. There will be 2 water stops that we will hit twice.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Start @ Panera&lt;br /&gt;Go South on West White Oaks Drive&lt;br /&gt;Veer Right onto Hollis&lt;br /&gt;Left on Cockrell&lt;br /&gt;Veer Right on Cockrell&lt;br /&gt;Stay on Cockrell as it turns a SHARP LEFT&lt;br /&gt;Left on Crystal Spring (don't keep going south on Cockrell!)&lt;br /&gt;Left on Castle Pines&lt;br /&gt;Right on Sugar Loaf&lt;br /&gt;Right on Saw Grass&lt;br /&gt;Left on Spyglass&lt;br /&gt;Right on Bay Hill&lt;br /&gt;Left on Crystal Spring&lt;br /&gt;Right on Fox Hall&lt;br /&gt;(mile 3.65 WATER STOP. Notice that during the week, we do a pace, not just run.  I'm told we need to change it up once and awhile and increase our speed for a few minutes during the middle of the run.  You want your muscles to respond to all kinds of situations, and this is good training advice.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I learned from our last long run that doing two things can really help your endurance and even increase your time:  First, always listen to your body, push it when needed and back off when needed.  I left my Garmin at home, so it forced me to do just that.  Second, walk during the first part of the run, and you won't be crawling at the end!  Galloway and other national experts recommend walking at least a minute inbetween the miles.  I also use that time to hydrate, and it has helped! &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;See you all out there! Since many of us are planning to run Abe's Amble, we have opted to do a couple of things to get our 18 miles in. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Doug has organized a couple of water stops for Friday evening, August 20th, at 5:45 PM, starting @ Shelter #7.  The plan is to run Abe's practice route a couple of times to get our 12 in, so I created a suggested route.  Click &lt;a href="http://www.runningmap.com/?id=213571"&gt;HERE&lt;/a&gt; for the route.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The other option is to literally run Abe's Amble twice and add 6 miles to that.  Or, be really crazy and run it 3 times. I meant eight miles!!! Wow, have we come a long way! A bit more hilly for a good workout, but manageable! There will be two water stops, one @ 3-mile and 5...which we cross twice, so, there are really 4 water stops! (math 101)&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Thanks to Kimee for taking over the water stops again. It takes a village. We are hoping you all will come out and join us for this very enjoyable and lovely run! (Thanks to Mary Rogers for the route idea!) We will go ahead and start @ 6:00 a.m. again.  As the runs get longer, I anticipate we will run earlier.  I would appreciate feedback from you all please on how you feel about starting times, so I don't have to keep guessing.  This group wishes to accommodate the majority. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;There is a small running group that doesn't offer waterstops but will depart tomorrow from Cafe Moxo @ 5:00 a.m. for a 9-mile if you are interested in an earlier time.  They will not wait for you if you are late.  Hard core.  Gotta love that.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;We will meet again @ Laurel United Methodist Church. Week 1 begins June 7th...</title><content type='html'>SummerWits is our tongue-in-cheek spin-off from the HalfWits group, organized by Kimee Armour, Jessica Larson, and yours truly.  It is for anyone who needs to train for a fall 2010 Marathon.  We decided to follow Hal Higdon's 18-week comprehensive &lt;em&gt;Novice 2 Guide, &lt;/em&gt;tweaked with advice from our local top athletes and sprinkled with a wish-desire on our part to have at least a couple of 20 or 20+ mileage runs in before attempting our first Marathon in Chicago on 10-10-10.  Our schedule accommodates leaders in Abe's Army, so one of the rest days is Tuesday, instead of Monday. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;A big thank you to Bill Stokes, who not only mentored us to do this, but in all our running endeavors.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Training begins Monday, June 7th.  Wednesday and Saturdays are our group runs together.
